Heb je zin om krasloten te kopen, zijn ineens zo goed als alle kraswinkels dicht (want corona). Of je bent qua openingstijd te laat. Of er is geen kraswinkel in de buurt. In de staat New York is dat vervelende probleem (herken je het?) nu binnenkort opgelost.

Dat heugelijke nieuws melden de plaatselijke media:

‘New York regulators cleared the way for lottery players to order scratch-off tickets on their phones as the state looks to mobile technology to increase gambling revenue.’

Krasloten kopen via je mobiel, dus. Welk een novum! Je koopt je krasloten via de app , what’s in a name, Jackpocket.

‘Within months’

Het gaat nog enkele maanden duren, maar dan kun je in New York voortaan 24 uur per dag je krasloten kopen. Loterijloten kopen via je smartphone kon in de VS al voor bekende landelijke loterijen als Mega Millions en de Amerikaanse Lotto-trekking.

De Loterijman citeert:

‘The state Gaming Commission approved a rule to allow companies to purchase and deliver instant scratch-off tickets for customers.

The maker of an app [Jackpocket, LM] that recently began taking orders for New York lottery drawings like Mega Millions and Lotto hopes to start offering instant tickets within months.’

‘Een win-win situatie’

Sommige winkeliers die veel fysieke krasloten verkopen maken zich een beetje zorgen over deze nieuwe ontwikkeling. Volgens de ceo van Jackpocket, Pete Sullivan, hoeven ze echter geen slapeloze nachten te hebben. Krasloten kopen met mobiele telefoon spreekt namelijk een andere doelgroep aan.

‘We’re getting a new demographic of players. I don’t think we’re going to change the behavior of people like my father who go to the same corner store every day.

But if we can provide somebody a safe alternative and a new distribution model, I think it’s a win-win.’

Online krasloten kopen?

Maar het venijn zit ‘m wat de Loterijman betreft in de staart. Want wat blijkt? Je kunt de krasloten wel online kopen, maar… je krijgt ze vervolgens per post thuisgestuurd.

Dus van instant krassen in geen sprake. Nou ja!

‘Jackpocket recently began offering people in New York the ability to order tickets for lottery drawings, with the company sending users a scanned image of tickets purchased on their behalf.

The ordering system for scratch-off tickets is different, with app users getting the actual tickets delivered to their home. Players set up accounts to pay for both types of tickets, and there’s typically a 9% fee on deposits.’

En dan moet je ook nog 9% commissie betalen. De Loterijman gaat even een paar krasloten halen. Gewoon bij een winkel.
